The dancing communication of bees increases their effectiveness at seeking new pastures. The dancing bee moves over the combs in the form of a narrow eight. In the crossing section it changes direction and sways its abdomen while humming with its thorax and wings. The direction of swaying in regard to the vertical line matches the direction of the pasture and the sun. Even in cloudy weather the bees are able to keep swaying in the same direction. The pattern of the swaying dance also contains signals with information on the distance to the pasture. While following the dancing bee, other bees are detecting the combined signs of the swaying dance.
