Pine honey

The pine honey in its liquid state is quite dense and is reddish-brown in colour. It tastes of resin and is very rich in minerals. It goes well with milky dishes or as a spread or in different sauces. Its characteristics are similar to fir honey.

The ordinary pine tree (Picea excelsa Link.) is a very important tree species in apiculture. The time for the main pasture starts when elder trees are blooming and then moves to higher regions. The pasture can be plentiful and in favourable conditions, the bees can fill the food chamber several times. For this type of pasture, I take my bees to the slopes of Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
